If you’re looking for a perfect place to start or end a day of paddling on the river, look no further than Whiteley Landing located in Eugene, OR 97404. This shallow, protected arm of the Willamette River has so much to offer and is an ideal spot to launch your trip. Situated just east of downtown Eugene, this will be the first port of call on any daylong outing from the city. It’s also only three-and-a-half miles northeast of Jonathan Creek Recreation Area, which is one of our favorite nearby camping spots. There are plenty of options for tent camping at Whiteley Landing as well as other nearby boat launches (such as Bridal Veil). If you’re staying longer and want to try something new every day, we can definitely see why this would be a good place to stay as well.
What to Know Before You Go to Whiteley Landing
– Expect to see people and dogs at Whiteley Landing. Whiteley Landing is one of Eugene’s most popular hangout spots, and it’s also one of the most popular rest stops in the state. So if you want to avoid crowds and dogs, you may want to try somewhere else first. – Summer is the busiest season for this area, but there are also winter activities here as well. What to See at Whiteley Landing
– The Eugene Boathouse: This is the main visitor center and boathouse. It’s open every day from 10 am to 6 pm, and there are plenty of free maps and trail information here as well as an information desk. You can also find restrooms and showers here. – River Trail: This is the concrete walkway that follows the river. It’s very convenient for those who want to spend time walking and admiring nature, as it has many views of trees and water. – A Nature Trail: This trail, which is on the west side of the building, is 1.4 miles long, and it’s a great place for birding and hiking. Things to Do at Whiteley Landing
– Kayak on the Willamette: Whiteley Landing is definitely an area to launch your kayak on the river. The Eugene Boathouse rents kayaks and contains a very nice and clean launch area. There’s also a hiking trail that leads right to the launch. – Hike an Area: The Eugene Boathouse has a list of hikes, which is always a nice thing to have in the area. And if you get tired of kayaking, you can also explore the trails in this area. – See a Spectacle: People often come to Whiteley Landing to see the Willamette passing by, and it’s not uncommon to see some amazing winter and spring waterfalls as well.
